Encourage Yourself in the Lord

I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities. – Psalm 31:7.

What a powerful statement that we read in 1 Samuel 30:6, But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.” The word ‘encouraged’ means to fasten, to seize, strengthen, fortify, aid, courage and to overpower. This is what David received from the Lord in the midst of what was a chaotic situation in his life. On arrival back to their home base at Ziklag after a season of fighting and deliverance, David along with his men were confronted with a terrible surprise. They found that the city had been invaded by the Amalekites and had been smitten and burnt to the ground. Their wives and children had been taken captive causing David and his men to lift up their voices and weep until they had no more power to weep as they were in so much distress and sadness. Nevertheless, in the midst of this disastrous situation, the last part of verse 6 tells us what David did. It says, “But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.” This means he took his eyes off the chaos and tragedy and turned them unto his God. This resulted in him receiving the strength, aid and power that only God can give at such a critical time. David knew the best thing to do under the circumstances, which was to meditate on the Lord. One of the Hebrew words for meditate literally means to murmur and implies the moving of the lips.

Another meaning of the word is to converse with yourself. It is your “self-talk” -the way that you speak to yourself about the things in your life. Everybody meditates on something but sometimes it is on the wrong thing or wrong person or it is with the wrong focus. You see, meditation is not a matter of positive thinking and neither is receiving encouragement. Rather, they are both matters of faith. It is not about us but it’s about Him. Let your meditation be about the Lord, about His love, His Word, His promises, His goodness and His wonderful works.

Confession:

I cast all my cares on the LORD and He sustains me. As the righteous, He will never let me fall. The Word of the Lord is keeping me day by day. I meditate about the Lord, about His love, His Word, His promises, His goodness and His wonderful works toward me.

Rebuilding Your Self-Worth

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. – Psalm 139:14.

You are valuable and you are precious! Many people, including Christians, think and believe that they are worthless. Their self-esteem is low, they behave in an insecure way and as a result, others treat them in the same way that they see themselves. It’s a spiritual law that if you think and believe that you are worthless, people will treat you in like manner. You see, you will carry an aura around you that says, “I am not worth much.” The less you value yourself, the more you will tolerate people who mistreat you. If you cannot respect and love the person you see in the mirror daily, the chances are you will not love and respect others in general. Jesus Took Your Place Our wonderful Lord and Saviour was rejected, despised and put to shame on the cross of Calvary in our stead. When He hung on the cross, He was despised and rejected. This is a subject that I’m really passionate about because a huge price has already been paid on the cross so that you can walk in honour and dignity.

1 Corinthians 6:20 says, “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

The Bible goes on to say in Ephesians 2:10 that we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works. Once a person has accepted Jesus Christ into their heart, the Bible states in 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.”

This means every disgrace or shame which was associated with your past has been destroyed and scattered by the power of the precious Blood of Jesus. Every record of debt that stood against you with its legal demands has been cancelled! Don’t blame yourself Some people don’t know how to treat others because they themselves may be insecure or they make even be judgmental. There is a saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”

However, people do judge others by stereotyping them. For example, a person who is wealthy may be perceived as having gained their riches by a corrupt life style. Naturally this is not always the truth.

Speak Good things About Yourself

When we speak good things about ourselves, it helps to eliminate the negative effects of the world’s words. For example, someone may say, “You will never amount to anything in life” or “You will never marry because you are too tall.” These words are damaging to one’s destiny and self-image. Needless to say, these words do not correlate with the Word of God and who one is in Christ. Negative words spoken over you can register on your inner conscience if you do not disregard them with the Word of God. Some people are extremely critical and hardly seem able to speak positively about others. If there is someone close to you who is critical about what you say or do, that can be very unpleasant. Also, negative words spoken over you regularly may even come to pass if you start to believe them.

Meditate and confess the Word, then God, through the Holy Spirit, will impart His Word into your heart so that you can speak of all the things He has done for you in Christ and you can be changed from within. Once you conform to the image of what God says you are in Christ, you will be changed from glory to glory.

Confession:

I am God’s own handiwork -His workmanship, recreated in Christ Jesus, born anew that I may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for me (taking paths which He prepared ahead of time) that I should walk in them, living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for me to live.

Finances and Debt Cancellation

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19.

In order to tap into and enjoy the benefits and blessings of God, one must know, understand and be committed to the laws of His Kingdom.

Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son. Colossians 1:12-13.

This Scripture is telling us that we were in the kingdom of the devil before we received salvation. Now we are citizens in the kingdom of God which is a new government, a new country, whereby there is a new system of operating and managing our finances. For instance, the laws of the United States are different from those of the United Kingdom. Legislation and government policies cannot apply the same way in every country. The kingdom of heaven will allow or permit God to carry-out certain things.

When it comes to finances and debt cancellation, kingdom law says in

Luke 6:38,

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”

Therefore, as you give your tithes and offerings, kingdom law says that there will be a supernatural return to you. As you sow, you shall reap. You cannot reap a harvest if you have not planted a seed. Likewise, a farmer cannot possibly expect a crop of corn if he has never planted seeds. Another example of kingdom law is found in 2 Corinthians 9:6,

But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.  If a farmer sows a small amount of seed he will receive to the measure which he has sown. That is the exactly the same principle for the person who gives to God financially. The laws of the kingdom cannot and will not change because the law of sowing and reaping cannot change. It is a spiritual law. Jesus has spiritual authority of over our finances when we sow into His kingdom. He will multiply and increase what is given. In addition, to sowing financially, of course we water our seed by confessing the Word of God.

As you sow consistently and tenaciously, whilst making your Word-based confessions, you will definitely reap a harvest. It may not produce a harvest immediately, but it is guaranteed to produce if you do not give up and continue steadfastly in the faith.

Confession:

Because I obey God, He blesses everything I put my hands to. He grants abundant prosperity to me. I am blessed financially because I honour the LORD with my tithes and offerings. The blessing of God makes me rich and He adds no sorrow or trouble with it. I have God’s favour wherever I go.

Healing, Health and Wholeness

O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. – Psalm. 30:2.

Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, paid the price on the cross in full for our health, healing and wholeness. God has made complete provision for us to walk free from all sickness and disease. Our covenant keeping Father God has given us a covenant right to divine health. Satan is the author of sickness. If sickness tries to attack your body you have a legal right and obligation to refuse it. Do not fear, only believe. Rebuke it with all authority, because it is illegal. The Word is your weapon. Use it forcefully -have the tenacity of a bulldog! You can believe for a long productive life because it is the will of God that you prosper in your spirit, soul and body. Ensure that you do not talk sickness.

The Bible says in, Proverbs 6:2 says, “Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.” This Scripture is telling us that we can have whatsoever we say. Therefore, our words dominate us. Simply, if you keep saying something long enough (right or wrong) you’re going to start believing it. Once you keep saying something long enough its going manifest. What you say will dominate your life. If you talk sickness, sickness will hold you captive. You are imprisoned by your own words. If you say that you do not have faith, doubt will overshadow you. It will stop the activity of the healing power of God in your body. Never talk defeat or failure. If you are defeated in life, it’s only because you have defeated yourself. You can only defeat yourself in two areas.

Firstly, by speaking negatively. Secondly, by not speaking the Word of God on a regularly basis – even when circumstances seem contrary to your affirmations. It will take time to develop the Word of God in your spirit. Naturally, it will depend upon how much time you dedicate to developing your spirit. Daily take your dosage(s) of healing Scriptures. Increase the amount if and when necessary. The Word of God is prevailing, powerful, energising and full of the eternal life of God and it works.

Confession:

Jesus Himself bore my sins in His own body on the tree so that I might die to sins and live righteously. He has already obtained healing for me, and by His stripes I have been healed and I accept it.

Walking In Empowerment

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.- Joshua 1:8.

To walk in power is to walk in the realm of the Almighty God. To walk in the realm of the Almighty God is to abide under His protective shadow.

Use the Scriptures to build your faith in God’s power for victory and protection in every area of your life. Although the Word tells us that God is not a respecter of persons, He is noticeably a respecter of faith and obedience! So keep your conscience clean and live right before Him. Honour God with your faith and pursue a life of obedience to Him.

Always let His Word and the Holy Spirit be your guide, knowing that at all times, God will be faithful to you

Confession:

The Word of God will not depart from my mouth. I will study and mediate on it continually, and will do according to all that is written in it. As I am careful to do according to all that is written in the Holy Bible, My ways shall be prosperous and I will have good success.
